Antique Oushak / Ushak Turkish Rug, late nineteenth century
On this luxurious antique Oushak, five shield-like medallions are arrayed around the field, connected by faint, diagonal staggered vines. Strewn over the ivory field are various stylized floral elements - blossoms, stems, palmettes,and leaves. A broad border also rendered in a pastel tone gives additional breadth to the already satisfying proportions of the carpet. The ivory ground is framed by a pale terracotta border with delicate accents in celidon, yellow, and sage.
